>> i think governor jindal said all things. the test will come in the months and years about the positions the republican party will have to change. the first test in the fiscal cliff negotiation. are they going to continue to insist that the people at the top who make the most money should not participate in solving the problem. are they going to insist in the beginning of next year when we turn to immigration reform that they're not going to help solve the problem of coming up with a comprehensive immigration reform bill. the problem for the republicans is they have to change positions. when they change positions people in the base will be very unhappy, and it's going to divide the party. but governor jindal is saying all the right things. the questions will be do the actions follow his words? >> also looking back to try to understand what happened during the 2012 election, running mate paul ryan, as you know, said urban voters gave the president the big margin to win. the critics are saying this is about questioning the demo

governor romney was simply elaborating on what david axelrod said about the obama campaign efforts to target key demographics specifically women. >> well, andrea, if i can quickly -- look, every campaign and candidate takes the policies that they've either put into place or would put into place and targets those two the communities they think would most benefit, would feel enthusiastic about them. that's campaign practice 101. that's why i think what mitt romney said, what he meant i leave up to him, but what he said sounds like he's accusing president obama's campaign of doing what every campaign throughout history has ever done, which is find people who are your supporters and make sure policies you've put into place you present them in the most positive possible light to those supporters to get them to vote. blaming voters is rarely a winning public relations strategy and that's why you see so many republicans jumping on and saying, whoa, mitt romney does not represent our view of the electorate. >> people, before i let you go, a major oil settlement, bp, closing the chapter, the h

>> well, i agree with republican governor jindal, that governor romney's remarks were way off base. they were a reminder about the comment caught on tape made during the campaign, sort of writing off 47% of american people. in addition, with respect to allowing young people to stay on their parent's health care plans until they're 26. if i recall right, governor romney said, hey, that was a part of the affordable care act, a part of obama care that he was going to try to keep. so to go of a the president's vote on the basis that we protected more young people from, you know, catastrophic health care costs, that we wanted to make sure people have access to birth control, and those kind of things, i think is going to strike the american people as just kind of very off kilter, and clearly some of the governor, republican governors and others recognize that it's another romney mistake. >> congressman chris van hollen with us this morning. nice to see you. appreciate you, as always. >>> christine's minding your business this morning. news on the stock market and bad news out of europe. >

and i would like to believe that governor romney once he reviews those remarks, will have regret having said them. he doesn't want to become vice president of excuses. but until and unless republicans get in touch with the fact-based world, in particular with science, global warming comes to mind, evolution comes to mind, until they get in touch with this, it's very hard to see how your optimism and my hopes are going to be fulfilled. but hope springs eternal, and with mitch mcconnell, who i think is the key for the republicans, their leader in the senate, that, you know, he was ungracious in the first hours after the election results were known. he has been the lead preacher of the gospel of obstructionism. and if he continues to that, not only will the republican party, i think, find the capital dome sort of, they'll be in a temple of doom if they continue to do this. you just can't do it. with the election itself, this election is going to be studied for a very long time. this is now the 21st century and what president obama did, he hired math wizards and so called stat geeks, and th
